- What To Expect
A carotid ultrasound is a quick, safe, and painless test that uses sound waves to take clear pictures of the two large arteries in your neck. These vital blood vessels supply blood to your brain, and this scan helps your doctor check the health of your blood flow and look for any narrow spots or blockages.
What happens during the test
- Clothing: You do not need to change out of your clothes for this exam. We recommend wearing a loose, open-collared, or button-down shirt so the sonographer can easily access the sides of your neck.
- Jewelry: Please remove any necklaces, chains, or large dangling earrings before your test begins, or leave them safely at home.
- Your Care Team: The test is performed by a male sonographer. If you would prefer a female chaperone to be present in the room during your exam, please just let our front desk know.
- Child Safety: For safety reasons, children are not permitted inside the exam room during medical testing and cannot be left unsupervised in our waiting area.
- Duration & Arrival
- Clinic Location: Please proceed directly to Unit #200, located on the second floor of the building.
- Arrival Time: Please arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment time to complete your check-in with our front desk team.
- Test Length: The ultrasound scanning process is brief and takes approximately 30 minutes.
Wait Times
We do our absolute best to see every patient right on time. Because we manage specialized medical cases, delays can occasionally happen. If your appointment runs a bit past its scheduled time, we truly appreciate your patience, kindness, and cooperation.
Safety & Support
- You may bring one support person, aged 16 or older, but only if you need help with translation.
- Children may not accompany patients during the test or left unattended in the waiting area.

Can I have both ultrasounds on the same day?
No, these tests need to be done separately.
Is any radioactive tracer used?
No, ultrasounds do not use radiation or radioactive material.
Can I breastfeed after the test?
Yes, it is completely safe to breastfeed right away.
